Friday, September 18, was the Care Fresno Fall Ball.  It was an incredible time of sharing stories and learning what God has done through Care Fresno over the last 20 years, as well as sharing the vision for where we’re headed.

Many of those helping with the event wore shirts that said “Ask Me Why I Care.”  Whether you were at the event or you missed it, here are a few reasons why the members of the Care Fresno team care:

Trey: I’m here because I love my neighbors.  I love meeting new people and I love the way my kids and their families challenge me.  I can’t pick and choose who to love.  Care Fresno is bigger than the after school program; you have no idea how much what you do impacts the whole community.

Ande: I Care because this is the community I live in.  These kids are the future of our community and by loving on them and teaching them about God, we have the chance of creating a better future for our community and a better future for Fresno.

MaiChai: I care because I want to be a catalyst to the community and to be able to make my neighborhood a better place. I want to be able to mentor kids in need, who so desperately seek it. Care Fresno is different than any other after school program because through neighborhood programs we reach out to children in high poverty areas and find mentors for them. Through these steps we also help prepare them to become leaders in their own community as well.  I am part of the Care Fresno team because as brothers and sisters in Christ I want to be able to spread love to others. Since I grew up in Easton, I have not experienced urban living and Care Fresno is the perfect connection to help you get a vision of what it means to live in those communities. I wanted to see through the lenses of a child who was living in poverty and a high-crime area and through Care Fresno I was able to do that.  One thing that I learned most was during my time at Care Camp. I was able to get a broader perspective of how important the stories of the Bible impacted the kids and because I saw the changes in the kids there I knew that I wanted to more involved with the kids.  I've learned so many new things in the short period of joining Care Fresno and I want to expand the goals of what Care Fresno is all about.

As for me, I Care because it bothers me that there are kids in my city who are poor and hungry and have never heard of Jesus.  We don’t simply run an after school program through Care Fresno; we live where the kids and families we serve live and we develop relationships that lead to mentor relationships.  As I mentor and disciple these kids, I am changed, as I learn what it means to practically love my neighbor and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
